What's happened to all of the Vilma Banky films? Well, simply put, people thought that saving these films for future generations was unimportant, a similar situation for many actors of her period. In Vilma's case, her German, Austrian, and Hungarian films are lost due to war and neglect. Hungary produced many wonderful silent films in the early years, but WWI halted production, and WWII destroyed what remained. Sadly, only 5% of Hungarian silent films exist today -- a stark comparison to the 10% remaining of American films.

Below are the Vilma Banky films known to exist today. Unless otherwise noted, the film exists in its entirety.

1. Tavaszi Szerelem - 1921 (Only a few fragments exist; it was featured along with other Hungarian productions in the Magyar Filmek Nyomaban documentary in 1998.)
2. Der Zirkuskonig - 1924 (the Cinematek-Svenska Filminstitutet in Stockholm has a copy, and it has been shown at film festivals in Italy and Spain as recently as 2002.)
3. Hotel Potemkin (Die Letzte Stunde) - 1924 (There are copies of this film at the Filmarchiv Austria, and it was recently screened in 2008.)
